Six Areas of Wellness

Wellness is a framework that can be used in many ways to help us organize, understand, and balance our own human growth and development. Our personal well being is dependent on equal attention to each of the six primary areas of life: social, intellectual, spiritual, emotional, physical and occupational.

Social Wellness

Developing friendships
Healthy sexual behaviors
Ability to interact comfortably with others
Work for harmony in personal and community environments

Intellectual Wellness

Desire to learn from challenges and experiences
Continuing intellectual growth
Engage in stimulating mental activities
Discover, process and evaluate information

Spiritual Wellness

Seek meaning and purpose in life
Open to others' beliefs and backgrounds
Grow in one's own spiritual and religious beliefs

Occupational Wellness

Development of career-related skills
Focus on achieving career goals
Pulling together all parts of wellness into plans for the future: career, family, future wellness

Physical Wellness

Engage in regular physical activity
