Hometown: Newark, OH

High School: Newark Catholic
Major: Athletic Training

Why did you choose to pursue athletic training at Mount Union? It's a recognized medical profession, with many instrinsic rewards through human service. I get to be part of the team and work outdoors.

What types of jobs are available for students who share your major? Athletic trainers can be employed by institutions, clinics, professional sports teams, or in industrial settings.

How will you use your degree upon graduation? I plan to enter a graduate program and become a clinical instructor in athletic training at the collegiate level.

What activities are you involved in? I am president of the Athletic Training Club and a member of SHPORT (Students of Health and Physical Education Official Representatives Team.) Currently I am assigned to the Mount Union football team as a student athletic trainer.

Elements a person should possess to succeed in your major? An athletic training student must have a true dedication of time and service, a deep interest in the health sciences, strong communication skills, empathy, and a sense of humor.

What advice can you offer for someone who is considering having the same major as you? The classes are challenging, the clinical hours (1000 hours to graduate)are long and unpaid, and we have obligations to work on weekends and over holiday breaks. However, if it wasn't worth it, none of us would do it.
