Hometown: Brecksville, Ohio

Major: German

Why did you choose to pursue your degree? I find German history, culture, and society fascinating. Therefore I have studied German for over six years.

What types of jobs are available for students who share your major? There are many opportunities for people who hold degrees in German. The field of business is always looking for people who speak German. This is because Germany is one of the United State's top trading partners. There are also many government agencies that need German speakers. Finally, someone with a German degree could go on to teach the language to others in the field of education.

How will you use your degree upon graduation? I will be using my degree as an officer in the United States Air Force.

What activities are you involved in? Men's Varsity Soccer, Air Force ROTC, Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity, Alpha Lambda Delta Honors Fraternity

Elements a person should possess to succeed in your major? People wanting to learn any language must possess a sincere desire to learn. You will only get out of the program as much as you put into it. You should be willing to study and practice German outside the classroom on your own time.

What advice can you offer for someone who is considering having the same major as you? My first piece of advice to anyone considering studying a language would be to study abroad early. My speaking abilities advanced the most when I was studying in Germany. When abroad you are totally immersed in the language and culture. Having this experience under your belt will prepare you for the upper level courses. Secondly, I strongly urge you to participate in class as much as possible. You can only learn so much by reading the book and sitting in class. If you want to master the German language, you need to practice it as much as possible.
