Hometown: Salem, Ohio

High School: Salem
Major: Music Education

Why did you choose to pursue music education at Mount Union? I know that music education is important and I wanted to help students find and develop their talents in music so that they may enjoy and appreciate music throughout their lives.

What types of jobs are available for students who share your major? Teaching music K-12 this includes general music, instrumental, and vocal.

How will you use your degree upon graduation? I hope to get a job in elementary music so that I can build and develop enthusiasm for music as well as musical skills.

What activities are you involved in? OCMEA (Ohio Collegiate Music Educators Association), Mu Phi Epsilon (Honorary Music Fraternity), and Kappa Kappa Psi (National Honorary Band Fraternity)

What elements a person should possess to succeed in your major? The ability to read music, piano skills - no matter what you primary instrument is, dedication and a love of music.

What advice can you offer for someone who is considering having the same major as you? Many people that come to college and decide to major in music do it because they simply love music. It is a very time consuming major that will test your dedication, but if you have self-confidence, dedication, and the desire to learn more about music and to someday teach it, then you can do it. There are some things that will help you to succeed including: piano lessons prior to coming to college, practicing regularly, and being able to read music.
