Hometown: Hammondsville, Ohio

High School: Southern Local
Major: Physics and Astronomy

Why did you choose to pursue physics and astronomy at Mount Union? I have always been interested in the math and sciences. Ever since I was a little girl, I have been fascinated by astronomy. I'm one of those kids who dreamed of being an astronaut when I grew up, but I never outgrew the dream.

What types of jobs are available for students who share your major? There are many job opportunities in the field of teaching, and also at various research institutions and laboratories around the world.

How will you use your degree upon graduation? I plan to attend graduate school in pursuit of my doctorate degree in the field of astrophysics. I then hope to either get a job at NASA or conduct research with radio telescopes.

What activities are you involved in? I am currently President of the Society of Physics Students, a member of Sigma Pi Sigma, which is a physics honorary, and a member of both the marching band and wind ensemble.

Elements a person should possess to succeed in your major? In order to succeed in physics and astronomy, one must have drive, dedication, and determination, as well as math, reasoning, and time management skills.

What advice can you offer for someone who is considering having the same major as you? Although the subject may sound intimidating, don't be afraid to consider a physics and astronomy major. If you truly enjoy and have a passion for the subject, I believe you will find the program to be both challenging and rewarding.
