Hometown: Geneva, OH

High School: Geneva
Major: French

Why did you choose to pursue French at Mount Union? I chose a degree in French, because I knew I wanted to go into teaching. In high school, I took five years of Spanish and I decided to take French my junior and senior year as well. I found that French came much more naturally and I really enjoyed the way my French teacher taught. I learned a relatively great deal in a short time and it quickly became my favorite class.

What types of jobs are available for students who share your major? Many jobs are available for French majors including jobs with international businesses, translator positions, and of course, teaching.

How will you use your degree upon graduation? I will graduate with a license to teach so I will go into teaching.

What activities are you involved in? I am involved with AIS (Association of International Students). I also am part of Alpha Mu Gamma, a foreign language honorary.

Elements a person should possess to succeed in your major? A person going into French should, quite obviously, be open and interested in other cultures.

What advice can you offer for someone who is considering having the same major as you? My advice for someone considering French as a major is to be willing to study abroad. I learned the vast majority of my knowledge of the culture and added a great deal to my understanding of the language by studying abroad in France.
