Marco Finotello

Hometown: Kent, Ohio

High School: Roosevelt
Major: Geology

Why did you choose to pursue geology at Mount Union? I chose geology because it allows me to do many other things that are related to geology.

What types of jobs are available for students who share your major? Jobs for geologists range from being a professor at a university to working for the big oil companies like shell and Exxon mobile. There are also many opportunities with the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency or that deal with seismology.

How will you use your degree upon graduation? I plan on attending graduate school, but in what specific part of geology I am still unsure of. I have a few more courses to take so once I complete them I should have a better idea

What activities are you involved in? I am on the tennis team and I studied abroad in Madrid, Spain. Some people think it delays graduation because you are gone for a semester, but with careful planning it shouldn’t delay anything. It is a fun and worthwhile experience that I will never forget.

Elements a person should possess to succeed in your major? A good memory, patience and a magnifying glass.

What advice can you offer for someone who is considering having the same major as you? Don’t eat the Halite and geology gives you a great opportunity to then branch off to many diverse fields.
