Purple Raider Hoopsters Fall to Visiting Cardinals

Mount Union women's basketball team (4-4, 2-2 OAC) fell 65-47 to Otterbein (5-4, 3-1 OAC) on Saturday, December 15 in Alliance, Ohio.

Otterbein opened the contest on a 16-5 run capped by two free-throws from Sara Fee at the 11:56 mark. Mount Union pulled to within eight, at 22-14, when sophomore/wing Brielle Sauter nailed a three-pointer with 6:53 remaining before the break. The Cardinals would eventually take a 32-21 lead into intermission.

The Raiders were never able to bring the deficit below double figures in the second half as Otterbein would earn a 65-47 conference victory.

Individually, Karli Volkmer led Otterbein with a game-high 23 points on 10-of-12 shooting. Fee and Ana Gamble each added 14 points. The Purple and White were led by Sauter’s 13 points while freshman/post Lauren Forquer chipped in 9 points and 10 rebounds.

Mount Union shot .259 from the field compared to .521 for Otterbein. The Raiders held a 40-34 rebounding advantage while committing 19 turnovers to 18 for the Cardinals.

Mount next travels to Florida to participate in the Barry University Holiday Tournament. Their first game will be played against Milkin University (IL) on Tuesday, December 18. Tip-off is set for noon.
