Raider Women's Soccer Team Falls to Marietta

The Mount Union women's soccer team (3-9-1, 0-4 OAC) dropped a tough 1-0 decision in overtime to the Marietta Pioneers (7-4-1, 2-2 OAC) on Tuesday, Oct. 9 in Marietta. The first half of play saw no goals from either side as the teams went into the locker room knotted at 0-0. The second half saw more of the same, as neither team could pull ahead and the game needed to be decided in overtime. The first overtime ended quickly as Marietta's Kaley Donovan scored just 24 seconds in off of a cross from Vanessa Nicholls which gave the Pioneers the overtime victory, 1-0. Mount Union's Kaitlyn Mallernee had nine saves in goal while Helen Hetzel had three saves in the net for Marietta. The Pioneers held a 19-8 advantage over the Raiders in shots as well as holding a 4-2 edge in corner kicks. The Raiders' next game will be on Saturday, October 13, when they will return home to take on Wilmington at 7:00 p.m. at Mount Union Stadium. |
