Hometown: Canal Fulton, OH Major: Biology Why did you choose to pursue your degree? I chose to pursue my degree because as far back as fifth grade, the sciences were my favorite subjects. I enjoyed the AP biology class I took in high school so I decided to start with the three core biology classes when I came to Mount Union. Now I can’t picture myself with any other major. What types of jobs are available for students who share your major? There are so many opportunities that begin with a degree in biology. These include pharmaceutical sales, medicine, allied-health professions and research or education of biology. There are also careers in environmental management and conservation. How will you use your degree upon graduation? I plan on attending graduate school to pursue a degree in physician assistant science, which consists of a two year program. What activities are you involved in? I am involved in Alpha Delta Pi social sorority and serve as the property manager. I was also a member of Alpha Lambda Delta national freshman honorary, Sophomore Service honorary and Emerging Leaders. Elements a person should possess to succeed in your major? To be a successful biology major, it’s essential to have a lot of curiosity and fascination with living things and how they work. You need not only to be able to memorize facts, but also to apply concepts and solve problems using critical thinking. What advice can you offer for someone who is considering having the same major as you? Don’t get discouraged if you’re in a three hour labs each week or more difficult lectures. If you enjoy the subject, it will be worth it in the future. |
