Raiders Defeat Pioneers

Mount Union College's women's basketball team (6-6, 2-3 OAC) earned a 67-44 win over visiting Marietta College (2-10, 0-5 OAC) in the Timken Gym in Alliance, Ohio, Wednesday evening, January 3.

The Purple Raiders jumped out to a 13 point first half lead at 33-20 following center Alicia Willaims' jumper at 1:34 in the first half. Mount Union eventually had a 33-23 lead at the break. In the second half, the Pioneers cut the lead to five at 37-32 following a layup by forward Abby Hess at 13:05. The Raiders outscored the Pioneers 30-12 the remainer of the way to secure their sixth win of the season and first of the new year.

Mount Union had three in double figures, led by Williams' 18 points, guard Haley Drayer's 14 and guard Lauren Friedrich's 10. Guard Dana Gerenyi added a career-best eight assists. Marietta was paced by guard justine Pagenhardt's 15 point effort.

The Purple Raiders shot .459 from the field compared to the Pioneers' .255. Mount Union had a 39-35 rebounding edge while committing 16 turnovers to 21 for the visitiors.

Mount Union, who has won three of their last four games, travels to Wilmington for a 3 p.m. tip-off on Saturday, December 6.
