Purple Raiders Upset Second Consecutive Top 25 Opponent

Mount Union College men's soccer team (4-4-1, 1-0 OAC) up-ended host Baldwin -Wallace (8-1-1,0-1 OAC), ranked # 10 in Division III by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) poll, by a score of 1-0 on Saturday, September 30 in Berea, Ohio.

The Raiders scored the game's only goal in the 40th minute, when midfielder Axel Sandoval found the back of the net on an assist from forward Trevor Beach.

Mount Union led 1-0 at the intermission.

The Purple Raiders were able to sustain a solid defensive effort throughout the rest of the contest to preserve a 1-0 victory.

This is the second consecutive victory over a ranked opponent for the Raiders after a 2-0 defeat of #21 Carnegie Mellon on Saturday, September 23.

In goal, Eric Sebor recorded nine saves as he posted his first shut out on the season. As a team, it was the Purple Raider's third straight shut out. Alex Stavros tallied two saves in goal for the Yellow Jackets.

Baldwin-Wallace was able to muster 22 shots on goal, as opposed to the Raiders five. The Yellow Jackets also attempted nine corner kicks to Mount Union's two.

Mount Union, who is in the midst of its longest winning streak since a five-game stretch early in the 2005 season, next puts streak on the line when it hosts Capital University on Wednesday, October 4. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
