Mount Union College's women's soccer team (2-5) fell 3-2 to Denison (7-0), ranked #8 in the country according to the NSCAA/adidas poll, on Saturday, September 16 in Granville, Ohio. The Purple Raiders opened scoring just two minutes into the contest when Cortney Frederick slipped a break-away one-on-one goal past the goalkeeper for an early 1-0 lead on the 2005 NCAA Quarter-finalists. The Big Red responded just six minutes later when Sarah Ash scored on a corner kick to tie the contest at 1-1. The score remained 1-1 at the half. In the second period the Raiders would again strike quickly as Jen Scrimenti scored on a direct kick ten minutes into the half to give the Raiders a 2-1 lead. Mount Union's Seana Kelly would grab seven saves in the second half to keep the Lady Raiders on top into the closing minutes. However, Denison would pull even when Tammy Hoch scored off of a rebound with just under three minutes remaining in the game. The Big Red would score the winning goal just over one minute later when Ash scored her second goal of the contest, a turn in front of the goal. Denison out shot the Raiders 28 to five in the game while also holding an advantage in corner kicks at 12 to zero. In goal the Raider's Kelly would be busy as she stopped 13 shots on the night while Liz Gillette grabbed one save for Denison. The Lady Raiders will next return home on Wednesday, September 20 to face Pittsburgh-Greenburg. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
