Lady Raider Soccer Team Splits At Blue Devil Days Inn Classic
Mount Union College's women's soccer team (1-4) won 2-1 in overtime over Hiram (1-3) in the consolation game of the Blue Devil Days Inn Classic hosted by Fredonia State on Saturday, September 9 in Fredonia, New York. Hiram reached the scoreboard first when Lauren Manfrass scored an early goal at the 6:56 mark of the first period. The Terriers would take that one goal advantage into intermission. Mount Union rebounded in the second half when Ashley Shea-Sutton scored on a cross from Cortney Frederick to tie the game at 1-1. In overtime, the Raiders' Brittany Huebler won the game when she took a rebound in the box and put it in the back of the net. The Lady Raiders out shot Hiram 22-17 while the Terriers held the advantage in corner kicks at 4-3. In goal for Mount Union, Seana Kelly stopped nine shots while Melissa Maskulka grabbed 11 saves for the Terriers. Raider senior/forward Cortney Frederick and junior/forward Brittany Huebler were both named to the Blue Devile Days Inn Classic All-Tournament Team. Mount Union next opens its home slate on Wednesday, September 13 against Case Western Reserve at 7 p.m. Game #1 Mount Union College's women's soccer team (0-4) fell 3-0 to Penn State Behrend (1-0) on Friday, September 8 at the Blue Devil Days Inn Classic. The Lions jumped out to an early 1-0 lead when Berlin Cassie scored on a breakaway in the third minute of the contest. Penn State Behrend took a 1-0 lead into halftime. The Lions added two more goals in the second period including Cassie's second of the game. The Purple Raiders and Lions each had 14 shots in the game while Mount Union had four corner kicks compared to Behrend's three. In goal for the Lady Raiders, Seana Kelly stopped eight shots while Lacy Beth had four saves for the Lions. |
