Hometown: Alliance, OH
High School: Alliance Why did you choose to pursue your degree in sociology? After taking intro to sociology as a freshman with Dr. Shockey, I noticed how the theories and issues that I learned in the class pertained to my life! I wanted to continue to learn more about the field. So, I declared it as my major. Psychology was just going to be my minor, but after having intro with Jeri Thompson, and social psychology with Dr. Daily, I realized how much I loved learning about psychology as well. So, I actually decided to double major! What types of jobs are available for students who share your major? I have noticed that there are a lot of student affairs jobs for individuals with psychology and sociology degrees. A lot of my peers with psychology and sociology degrees have went on to graduate schools, which is what I plan on doing. How will you use your degree upon graduation? I will continue my education by hopefully being accepted into a Ph.D program, or a masters program. While I am in graduate school, I would like to continue as a part of the residence life staff, and become an resident director. What activities are you involved in? Alpha Xi Delta (currently new member orientation chair), Alpha Lamda Delta, Blue Key National Honorary, Program Administrator for Cunningham Hall, Order of Omega, Psi Chi (treasure), Psychology Club (president), Panhellenic Council (Vice President), and I am working with Alzheimer’s patients at McCrea Manor in Alliance. Elements a person should possess to succeed in your major? A person needs to have an open mind, and time management skills. What advice can you offer for someone who is considering having the same major as you? Go talk to someone in the department. For these two majors, you have a lot of required classes that you need to take. The sooner you start on the path of that major, the better. All of the professors in both departments are friendly and will offer great advice! |
