Why did you choose to pursue biochemistry at Mount Union? I chose a degree in biochemistry because it will eventually put me in a position to make a difference in many people's lives through industrial pharmaceutical research.

What types of jobs are available for students who share your major? A degree in biochemistry can lead to many different careers, including those in industry, medicine, agriculture, and education. A biochemist in industry can work on anything from brewing techniques that result in a better tasting beer to pharmaceutical research that results in experimental cancer treatments.

How will you use your degree upon graduation? I will be pursuing a doctoral degree in biochemistry, and upon completion of my degree, I plan to be involved in research and development for a biotechnical / pharmaceutical company.

What activities are you involved in? I have been involved in Sophomore Service Honorary (vice-pres), president of Alpha Lambda Delta national freshman honorary, and am currently the president of the American Chemical Society.

Elements a person should possess to succeed in your major? Inquisitiveness and a penchant for problem-solving.

What advice can you offer for someone who is considering having the same major as you? Biochemistry major, though featuring more difficult courses than many other majors, will give you many employment opportunities upon graduation. Don't get discouraged early!
