Purple Raiders Split Twin-Bill At Capital

Mount Union's baseball team (10-11-1, 3-3 OAC) split a doubleheader with Capital (12-11-1, 1-4 OAC) on Saturday, April 9 at Clowson Field in Bexley, Ohio. The Cruaders won the opener 3-1 while the Raiders took the nightcap 6-5. In game #1, Capital put together a three-run third inning capped by a Marc St. John two-run single. Jacob Butler went 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Crusaders. Offensively, Mount Union was led by first baseman Thomas Pfaus who went 2-for-3 with a home run. Right fielder Chris Fadden also went 2-for-3 for the Purple and White. Shawn Kerek (2-3) took the loss for the Raiders pitching a complete game, allowing three earned runs and striking out three. In the second game, with the score tied at 5-5 in the seventh inning, Raider leftfielder Andy Warner drilled a solo home run to right-center giving Mount Union the go-ahead run. Warner finished the contest 2-for-4 with 2 RBI. Fadden went 3-for-4 with a run scored. Tim Newman (2-2) earned the victory for the Raiders pitching 2.0 scoreless innings in relief. Tommy Kerr started for Mount Union going 5.0 innings and allowing just two earned runs. Mount Union will next host Notre Dame College (Ohio) on Sunday, April 10. First pitch from Alliance, Ohio is scheduled for 1 p.m. |
