Purple Raiders Drop Twin-Bill At Washington & Jefferson

Mount Union College's baseball team (6-7-1) lost both games of a doubleheader at Washington & Jefferson (7-4) on Tuesday, March 29 at Ross Memorial Park in Washington, PA. The Presidents won game #1 by a score of 13-3 and earned a 7-4 victory in game #2. In game #1, Raider pitcher Dave Fleischer (1-1) took the loss. Offensively, Mount Union was led by designated hitter Paul Namey who went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer. Centerfielder Jason Evans finished the contest 3-for-4 with two runs scored. The Presidents used a three-run first and a five-run second en route to the win in the opener. Washington & Jefferson had a 14-9 hit advantage in the contest. In game #2, pitcher Dave Ujcich (0-1) picked up the loss for the Purple & White. Rightfielder Chris Fadden led the Raider offense with a solo home run. Catcher Jon Gorbach went 2-for-3 with a run batted in. The Purple Raiders held a 4-3 lead in the nightcap heading into the bottom of the fifth when Washington & Jefferson erupted for a four-run inning on the way to the sweep. The Presidents outhit the Raiders 12 to seven while committing three errors to just one for the Purple Raiders. The Raiders will next host Baldwin-Wallace on Wednesday, March 30 at 23rd Street Field in Alliance, Ohio. Game #1 of the doubleheader is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start. |
