MountUnionCollege is approved by the Department of Education of the State of Ohio for the preparation of competent, capable, and caring teachers in early childhood, middle childhood, adolescence to young adult, and multiage licenses. Candidates are able to major and minor in early childhood (CE) and middle childhood (ME) education. Candidates are able to minor in adolescence to young adult (AE) and in multiage (M/A) education.

The early childhood major and license prepare candidates to work with young children ages 3-8, grades preschool through third grade. The middle childhood major offers a choice of four different areas of emphasis leading to licensure: language arts, science, social studies, and mathematics. The middle childhood major chooses two areas of emphasis in addition to a minor area of study. This coursework prepares candidates to teach grades four through nine. The adolescence to young adult minor, when taken with an appropriate major, offers programs leading to licensure to teach grades seven through twelve in the following areas: earth/space science, (geology major); physical science, (chemistry/physics major); life science, (biology major); integrated mathematics, (mathematics major); integrated language arts, (English literature or writing major); integrated social studies, (economics, history, political science, psychology, or sociology major). The multiage minor, when taken with an appropriate major, leads to licensure to teach preschool through twelfth grade in the following areas: drama/theatre, French, German, Spanish, music, physical education, and visual arts. In all programs, the candidate is prepared to meet the requirements for the appropriate Ohio Provisional License. Two advanced programs: K-12 reading endorsement and middle childhood generalist are also available for Mount Union College Program completers with additional coursework.
