The Host: Alex Smith

Alex Smith says that he is “too blessed to be stressed.” Smith, who wants to give back to others as God has blessed him, has served as the host of the Evelyn Brown Spiritual since 2000. For more than 20 years he has worked with Evelyn Brown promoting gospel music and introducing gospel to the Alliance area. Since the inception of the Evelyn Brown Spiritual in 1969, the show has grown to a national audience. Smith, a member at Second Baptist Church in Alliance, has been involved with the Baptist Church for over 40 years, including being the church’s soundman, custodian and a trustee. He is married to Helen and has 12 children.

Since receiving a heart transplant in 1991, Smith has been dedicated to keeping the show alive.

“I love the Lord and enjoy doing his work,” said Smith. “Our radio show has touched so many people and I really enjoy doing it. It is a gift you take to the people and can minister to anyone around the country.”
