Raider Baseball Team Sweeps Yellow Jackets

Mount Union College's baseball team (14-6, 4-0 OAC) extended its winning streak to five games after sweeping conference rival Baldwin-Wallace (11-9, 1-3 OAC) on Thursday, April 6, at Heritage Field in Berea, Ohio. The Raiders took the opener 13-5 then won the nightcap by a score of 3-1.
Mount Union got on the board early in game one with four runs in the first inning. First baseman Brandon Fedor highlighted the inning with a two-run single. Leading 6-0, the Raiders would add five more in the fifth after an RBI single from catcher Jon Schulz and a grand slam from right fielder Dave Bogner.
Shawn Kerek (3-1) picked up the win for the Purple and White, throwing six innings, allowing only two runs on three hits, and striking out a career-high 13 batters.
Fedor finished the contest 3-for-5 with two RBI, while Bogner was 2-for-4. Five other Raiders had two hits including shortstop Josh Faltot, center fielder Jason Evans, designated hitter Andy Warner, third baseman Paul Namey, and catcher Jon Schulz. Warner and Namey also had two RBI.

The Raiders picked up where they left off scoring twice in the first inning of game two after RBI hits from Warner and Namey. Baldwin-Wallace cut into the lead with one run in the second. Mount Union added an insurance run in the seventh following an RBI from Bogner.
Nic Carucci (5-0) remained unbeaten on the year tossing a complete game five-hitter, allowing no earned runs, and striking out five.
Offensively, Warner was 4-for-4 while Faltot was 1-for-3 with two runs scored.

Mount Union, who has won seven of eight, next hosts Capital on Saturday, April 8. The double header from 23rd Street Field in Alliance, Ohio is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start.
