Purple Raiders Split At Muskingum

Mount Union's baseball team (13-17, 6-8 OAC) split a conference doubleheader at Muskingum (19-13, 2-10 OAC) on Sunday, April 22 at Mose Morehead Field in New Concord, Ohio. The Raiders won the opener 5-3 but fell 5-2 in the second contest.

In the opener, the Raiders jumped out early with three runs in the first inning. Muskingum would eventually tie the score in the third. However, Mount Union rallied for two runs in the final inning to earn the 5-3 victory.

Mike Reynolds (2-5) picked up the win, tossing a complete game and allowing two earned runs.

At the plate, Mount Union was paced by centerfielder Jason Evans, who went 2-for-4 with an RBI, and designated hitter Cory Slaybaugh, who finished the contest 1-for-2 with a walk and an RBI.

Box Score

The Muskies got the early start in game two, scoring four times in the first three innings. The Raiders could only generate single runs in the second and fourth.

Mark Sabatino (2-1) tossed his first career complete game but suffered the loss.

Offensively, first baseman Thomas Pfaus was 2-for-3 with two runs while shortstop Josh Faltot was 2-for-4 with a double.

The Raiders next travel to Thiel (PA) on Monday, March 23 for a non-conference battle. The game is set for a 3 p.m. start.
