Mount Union Women's Basketball Team Falls To Capital

Mount Union women's basketball team (5-8, 2-4) lost to Capital (10-2, 5-1 OAC), by a score of 67-55 on Wednesday, January 9 at the Timken Gymnasium in Alliance, Ohio.
The Crusaders opened the contest on an 8-1 run capped by a layup from Heather McAlpin at the 16:35 mark. The Raiders battled back and pulled to within three, at 24-21, on a jumper from sophomore/guard Tessa Pohovey with 6:06 remaining before the break.
Capital would eventually take a 37-26 lead into intermission.
The Crusaders extended the lead to 55-37 at the 10:11 mark of the second half on a layup from Kristen Richardson, and would preserve a 57-55 victory down the stretch.
Individually, the Raiders were led by sophomore/guard Tiff Oster, who tallied 10 points on 4-of-5 shooting. Sophomore/guard Haley Drayer added 10 points in only 14 minutes of play. Senior/forward Ashley Ross recorded 10 rebounds. Capital was paced by 24 points from Richardson while Caitlin Elsass contributed 17 points and five rebounds.
Mount Union shot .360 from the field compared to .474 for Capital. Both teams recorded 32 rebounds while the Raiders had 19 turnovers to only six for the Crusaders.
Mount next travels to play Wilmington on Saturday, January 12. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
