Mount Union Men's Hoops Team Loses At Otterbein

Mount Union College's men's basketball team (2-7, 0-5 OAC) was defeated by Otterbein (2-8, 2-3 OAC), by a score of 89-82 on Saturday, December 22 in Westerville, Ohio.
The Cardinals took an early 10-7 lead at the 15:48 mark on a Ross Banaszak three-pointer. Otterbein would extend the lead to as many as 14 in the opening half before settling for a 48-39 halftime advantage.
The Raiders pulled to within five, at 57-52, when sophomore/post Steven Shepherd converted a lay-up at the 12:48 mark of the second stanza. The Cardinals then pushed the lead back to 11, at 71-60, on a triple from Alan Kavanaugh with 8:26 showing on the clock.
The Purple and White then used a 10-0 run capped by a trifecta from junior/guard Chris Switzer to make the score 71-69 with 5:23 remaining in the contest.
Otterbein used a quick 9-4 run to take an 80-73 lead with 1:23 left, and hung on to secure of an 89-22 victory.
Individually, the Raiders were led by freshman/forward Dave Pellerite, who totaled 22 points, six assists, and five rebounds. Switzer added 14 points. Otterbein was led by a game-high 26 points from Adam Wells, including 7-of-15 shooting from behind the arc.
Mount Union shot .525 from the field compared to .509 for Otterbein. The Cardinals held a 33-28 rebounding edge while committing 12 turnovers to the Raider's 10.
The Purple and White next travel to take part in the College of Wooster tournament. Their first game will be on Friday, December 28. Their opponent and game time is yet to be determined.
