Mount Union College junior Eddis Singleton (E. Cleveland/Shaw), now a four-time All-American, successfully defended his 50 yard freestyle national title and took third overall in the 100 yard freestyle at the Division III Swim Championships held at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, this past weekend, March 20-22, 2003.

Singleton took the top in the 50 free on Thursday, March 20, with a school-record time of 20.07. In 2002 at Nationals, Singleton won the title as well with a then school-record time 20:32. Singleton placed fifth at Nationals as a freshman in 2001.

The overall Division III NCAA record in the 50 free is 19.90 set by Aaron Cole of Denison University.

Singleton was ranked 45th nationally in the 100 yard freestyle going into Nationals. However, he qualified for the finals on Saturday, March 22, with a new school record preliminary time of :45.91. He then broke that mark with a finals time of :45.62 - good for third overall, earning All-American status for the second time during the weekend and fourth time overall during his collegiate career.

Thanks to Singleton's one-man performance, the Raiders had their best finish at Nationals - taking 19th overall (36 points) among Division III institutions.
