Summer Reading Assignment for the Entering Class of Fall 2007

The summer reading assignment is required of all new students and is intended to create a shared learning experience for the LS 100 students and their LS 100 Mentors at Mount Union College. In this, our eighth year of the summer reading assignment, we have selected Professors’ Guide to Getting Good Grades in College by Lynn F. Jacobs, Ph.D. and Jeremy S. Hyman, M.A. as the summer reading book for this year's entering class. The authors will visit campus early in September speaking at the Dewald Honors Dinner on Wednesday, September 19 (tent), and provide a lecture to all LS 100 students at the Convocation on Thursday, September 20.

Professor Deborah J. Lotsof, coordinator of LS 100, is very enthusiastic about the book and the opportunity for students to hear directly from the authors. This book promises to equip our new students with the strategies and “insider secrets” that will help them to succeed. “The book offers high-value, practical tips about how to succeed at each of the five ‘grade-bearing’ moments of the semester: (1) The Start (2) The Class (3) The Exam (4) The Paper and (5) The Last Month of the Semester.” The book is “fast-paced, entertaining, and easy-to-follow.”

Welcome to LS 100! Welcome to Mount Union College!
