Yes, you must apply for graduation at least one semester prior to your planned date of graduation.  However, to ensure that you are aware of and able to complete any missing requirement in time, we recommend that you apply at least  a year before you plan to graduate.

Upon receipt of your application, the Registrar and your Department Chair will review your academic record to determine if you have any remaining requirements to complete.  A record of this review will be recorded on a Degree Clearance Form, a copy of which both you and your advisor will receive.

The Degree Application Form is on-line at the Registration Office website or may be obtained in the Registration Office.  Complete information on Graduation is available on the Registration Office website.

You must be within one course of completing all requirements at the time of the May Commencement in order to petition the Academic Policies Committee for permission to “walk” at Commencement.  Approval is not automatic.  If your petition is approved the missing course must be taken in the summer immediately following that Commencement at Mount Union College or elsewhere as an approved transient course.  You must be registered for the course prior to Commencement.

Any change to your graduation requirements needs to be documented and recorded in your file in the Registration Office.  Make certain that you as well as the Registrar have a signed copy of this document(s).  If a change in your requirements has been made and you or the Registrar do not have a copy you must obtain a copy of the original document or obtain a new waiver or change and make certain that you as well as the Registrar now have copies .

If you feel there is an error in either document regarding your general education or minor requirements, please contact the Registrar or his assistant immediately for clarification or correction of this matter.  If there is an error on your major requirements, please contact your Department Chair.  In all cases make certain that the Registrar and the Department Chair are aware of any changes to these documents and make certain that all three of you have a signed document verifying such changes or modifications.

There are four sources for a list of courses that meet each of the General Education requirements:

1.  in the most recent Mount Union College Catalogue which is available on-line at the Registration Office website;

2.  in a hard copy Mount Union College Catalogue which is available in the library;

3.  by going to the Registration Office to obtain a copy of the list, published each spring by the Registrar, which tells which courses qualify for these requirements;  or

4. on-line at the Registration Office website under  “General Education Update”.

For complete information on “W” courses, go to the Registration Office website and click on “Writing Across the Curriculum: ‘W’ Course Information.”  This site lists all courses that may be offered as a “W” course and also indicates which courses are always offered as a “W” course.  It also explains how to quickly find “W” courses on IQ.Web when preparing to register for classes.

No.  Once you graduate your undergraduate program is over and your undergraduate academic record is closed.  Additional courses will be classified as postbaccalaureate course work and you will have a new set of term and cumulative credit totals and GPAs.  Your undergraduate totals and GPA will not change as you take additional courses.

You have an option of earning a second baccalaureate degree but you should ensure that you have a complete understanding of all the requirements for such a degree before you consider taking this route.

No, you do not need a minor if you complete two majors.  Your second major far exceeds the requirements for a corresponding minor in that program and thus fulfills the requirement for graduation.
