The On-Line Advisor

This on-line guide has been developed by the Office of Academic Affairs and the academic departments of Mount Union College to help you understand the construction of your first semester's schedule, and to plan for the second and subsequent course selections. In this way, we believe you can more carefully plan for the wealth of opportunities your college program affords and feel, upon graduation, that you have achieved the most from your college experience.

The links below will take you to other parts of this website which will allow you to fully explore the options for pursuing the various majors. In many cases the entire program for the major (all four years) is not available yet. You will find the college catalogue helpful in looking at the various courses that are required in the selected major.

Sprinkled throughout your Mount Union College program will be general education courses because we are a liberal arts college. For students who have yet to decide on a major, these courses can provide the opportunities to explore and find your passion for learning. For students who have already decided what they want to pursue, the general education program provides the breadth and depth of curricular experience to assure your adaptability and flexibility far into the future.

Here at Mount Union College, we also believe that writing is a critically important skill. In order to provide sufficient experience in writing, the College has established a "Writing Across the Curriculum" program. In addition to a first-year composition course (EH 100 or EH 120W), students must take three courses designated writing courses (by the W that appears following the course number, e.g. BI 127W) from three different disciplinary areas as part of their graduation requirements. It is useful to plan for one of your W courses in your first year.

Registration Office

This site provides information on the requirements, lists of general education courses (linked above), notices about registration, finals schedules, information for application for graduation and many other things. When you get to campus, if you have your own computer, you may want to bookmark that page and check it regularly.

The Office of Academic Affairs:

This site provides information on the academic programs and departments of the college and gives you contact information on staff who may help you navigate the various academic issues. The Academic Support Center, Disability Support Services and the Writing Center are among the services administered through this office.

The Office of Student Affairs:

This site provides information on the living/learning organizations and structures with which you will come in contact from the moment you arrive. Housing, student government, clubs and organizations, counseling, career counseling all are administered through this office.

If you have not had a chance to explore these web pages yet, you may find it helpful this summer to explore when you have a little more time.

The IQWeb page:

This is the site to check for specific courses and their meeting times among many other things. Once you become an enrolled student you will receive an ID number and pin. Then you will be able to log on and check your academic record on-line. For now, you can enter the IQWeb as a visitor and you will be able to "find course sections" and see what courses are offered for the fall semester and when those classes meet.
