M3C Fellows Program
Mount Union College is one of a few select campuses which administer the Midwest Campus Compact Citizen-Scholar (M3C) Fellows Program. The M3C Program is a ten-state initiative, led by the Wisconsin Campus Compact that is committed to integrating education with civic engagement among campuses across the Midwest.
The M3C Fellows Program is an AmeriCorps Education Award Program. Fellows must complete 300 hours of community service (60 of which can be training), recruit 5 volunteers and complete an online seminar within one calendar year. Students who successfully complete this program will receive a $1000 education award to use toward tuition. The program strives to develop a peer network and provide support that enables students to serve as agents of civic engagement to respond effectively to local community issues. Further, it seeks to foster a deep appreciation and understanding of democratic values and citizenship among participants, and nurture the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and behaviors that lead to a lifelong commitment to active community and civic engagement.
M3C Fellows meet as a group weekly with their advisors for training and coordinating volunteer activities. Many projects are done as a group or in small teams, but Fellows are also responsible for finding a regular volunteer placement. Some of our current students are working on projects such as mentoring youth, assisting in after school programs, Hurricane Katrina relief, designing and planting wildlife gardens at Northside Elementary school, spending time with senior citizens, baking cookies for aromatherapy at Alliance Community Hospital, riding the bus with preschoolers and many other projects.
Who should apply? All Mount Union College students may apply as long as they have not previously completed two years in any AmeriCorps program. Preference is given to students that are first generation college students, have financial need and have a deep commitment to volunteer service.
