BA 143 - Integrating College and Life Options: Know Yourself

Intended to generate an enhanced level of self-awareness related to integrating college and life choices…choosing a major and career path. Students will be challenged to identify their personal skills, goals and objectives and relate them to curricular, cocurricular and extracurricular opportunities and possible professional/career alternatives. A review of current economic, professional and societal trends/opportunities will help students become aware of diverse career alternatives.

3. 1-on-1 Shadowing ~ Career Development database of professionals (alumni & recruiters) who are willing to host a student on site one hour - one time for career exploration and networking purposes.

4. Peer Mentoring ~ Students are paired with upper-class students in the same major for encouragement or assistance.

5. Career Testing & Assessments ~ A variety of tests used to help assess student's interests and strengths, as well as guide them to areas for maximum success in the development of their career choice. Type Focus, Self-Directed Search, 16 PF, Strong Interest Inventory, and Vault.com

6. Real World Road Trips Careers in action field trips to a variety of business organizations.

7.Departmental Discovery An opportunity through LS100 for students to visit and speak with faculty to learn more about their departments and career opportunities within that field.

8. Career Resource Library The Career Resource Library is available to students for independent research. It features a large 'Careers in...' series, reference materials, intern, employment, summer and part-time opportunities as well as a variety of information on interviewing, resume construction, and the job market. Students may check out books for their convenience.
